Eurotech Catalyst Module XL Embedded Computer Passes Military Environmental Testing
Eurotech's Catalyst Module XL, a Compact, Rugged Embedded Computer, Completes Military Qualification in Airborne Application
Columbia, MD, December 8, 2009 Eurotech, a leading supplier of embedded technologies, products, and systems, today announces the Catalyst Module XL has passed military environmental testing operating in an airborne inhabited cargo aircraft environment. Eurotech customer Astronautics used the Catalyst Module XL in the Electronic Flight Instrument System as part of a major foreign military sale aircraft avionics suite. The aircraft system successfully completed DO-160E testing including temperature (Category A1B1), vibration (Category U), and EMI (Category Z, YY, and M), along with a full slate of other categories using the Catalyst Module XL.
The Eurotech Catalyst Module XL has very compact 67x100mm form factor and operates at extended temperatures with a low power design. The Catalyst Module XL embedded computer that passed military inspection featured a 1.3 GHz Intel® Atom™ processor, 512 MB RAM, IPC Class 3 design and processing and conformal coating. Conformal coating offers extra protection against moisture, dust, chemicals, temperature extremes and other conditions found on aircraft.
"Astronautics is known for quality and reliability in the aerospace market, and Eurotech's Catalyst Module XL is an excellent embedded system for our Electronic Flight Instrument System, since it is rugged enough to withstand extreme vibration and temperature," said Rebecca Milhoan, Buyer for Astronautics.
With a robust EMI design, the Catalyst Module XL is built for minimal electromagnetic interference and radio frequency interference. The product is also rugged for vibration, with a memory subsystem with chips soldered on the board for higher reliability.
"The Catalyst Module XL was developed with these types of military applications in mind, and we are gratified the product has successfully completed Military Environmental Testing," said Don Muller, Eurotech Program Manager. "For OEMs whose applications have to run flawlessly at extreme temperatures and external conditions, Eurotech has the optimal solution with the Catalyst Module XL."
