Eurotech Turbo G5 Module Based on Freescale® i.MX31 Processor Delivers High Performance in Low Power to the Multimedia Market
Turbo G5 Offers Low-Power Solutions for Demanding Multimedia and Graphics Applications in Small Form Factor Computer-on-Module Design
Boston, MA, October 28, 2008 – Eurotech Inc., a leading provider of application-ready embedded computer systems, today announces the launch of the Turbo G5 computer on module based on the Freescale i.MX31processor. Based on an ARM11™ microprocessor core, the Turbo G5 provides the performance and small form factor with low power consumption required by modern digital devices.
The Turbo G5, with such low power draw and small size (74 x 46 mm), allows for customer designs of OEM products and devices to be enclosed, without fans or heat sinks, while still supporting the latest multimedia, global positioning, and networking capabilities in portable, battery-operated, handheld devices. Utilizing the Turbo G5, manufacturers can build applications across a wide range of markets including entertainment, gaming, defense, medical, and control industries.
An innovation, vector floating point (VFP) coprocessor, is equipped on the Turbo G5 that offers a vast improvement in floating point arithmetic, with typical tests show an 85% faster time for most computations. The VFP allows for faster processing with reduced instruction sets, and makes a significant difference where computations require dynamic range and floating point precision. VFP is useful in a wide range of applications from media decompression to navigation to anything requiring 3D graphics and application acceleration.
The computer on module design of the Turbo G5 allows manufacturers to get to market quickly, by separating the processor module from the I/O carrier card. Manufacturers have the flexibility to have Eurotech or a third-party create the carrier card to accompany the Turbo G5 module. Eurotech offers a full-functioned carrier board in a development system that manufacturers use to develop their application early in the process.
"With the addition of the Turbo G5, Eurotech continues to solve the challenges for OEMS designing applications that require low-power with high performance providing," says Eurotech CEO, Greg Nicoloso. "The Turbo G5 is application ready in both hardware design and software tooling, and designed to get the OEM to market quickly and efficiently."
The Turbo G5 module permits device manufacturers to choose between Windows CE or Linux operating systems. Select real-time OS options can be supported as required.
