TurboXb supports Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R2 for multimedia, automation, and battery-operated applications.

Columbia, MD., March 31, 2008 – Applied Data Systems, a leader in low-power embedded computer systems and a subsidiary of Eurotech Group, S.p.A., announces the availability of the TurboXb embedded computer system with Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R2 from Microsoft (NasdaqGS: MSFT). With enhanced features like Voice over IP (VoIP) and support for Web Services on Devices (WSD), enabled by Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R2, the TurboXb is a small form factor solution targeted for fanless, portable devices.

Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R2 expands on Windows Embedded CE 6.0 by offering an extended feature set for applications requiring additional capability. VoIP functionality is a key new feature which allows for making VoIP calls, video, and 3-way calls. A suite of five VoIP applications provide a complete solution for VoIP-based devices. Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R2 now supports WSD for enhanced connectivity to other devices and WSD APIs offer a flexible solution for providing web services easily. Finally, an updated Internet Explorer is ideal for kiosk-type applications. Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R2 can also be easily added to existing Windows Embedded CE 6.0 projects.

"We are excited about offering support for Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R2 on our embedded products like the TurboXb," says Larry Ricci, a Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP). "The TurboXb is an ideal embedded solution because of its modular design and flexibility, which allows for easy customization. With the added benefits of Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R2, it is a comprehensive platform for a broad range of applications including those requiring multimedia capabilities like VoIP or 3-way audio or connectivity to other devices such as those in automation."

"We are pleased that Applied Data has begun incorporating Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R2 into its product feature set" said Dan Javnozon, senior product manager with Windows Embedded at Microsoft Corp. "With Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R2, Applied Data’s application-ready embedded solutions will help OEMs develop a new generation of smart, connected service-oriented devices and bring them to market quickly."

The TurboXb is a modular embedded solution based on the Marvell PXA270 processor which also supports voltage and frequency scaling for added flexibility. The system has an LCD graphics controller, support for 24-bit LVDS, and can handle video resolutions up to 1280 x 1024. This feature set, coupled with stereo/audio capabilities and a range of communications options including 10/100BASE-T Ethernet, serial ports, SSP and I2C interfaces, plus USB host and function ports makes the TurboXb an optimized product for applications requiring low-cost embedded solutions that have flexibility and multimedia capabilities.

Applied Data Systems, a six-time winner of the Independent Hardware Vendor Excellence Award from Microsoft, is also a Gold-level Microsoft Windows Embedded Partner. Bruce Eitman, Director of Software Engineering at Applied Data Systems, and Larry Ricci are both Microsoft MVPs.
