Vector Floating Point

The vector floating point (VFP) coprocessor available on ARM11 CPUs, such as Freescales i.MX31 processor, is an exciting new innovation that offers vast improvement in floating point arithmetic.

VFP allows for faster processing with reduced instruction sets, and really makes a difference where computations require dynamic range and floating point precision. VFP is useful in a wide range of applications from media decompression to navigation to anything requiring 3D graphics and application acceleration.

Eurotech offers several products with vector floating point: the Sphere II, based on the Cirrus EP9315 processor, and the Bitsy G5, based on the Freescale i.MX31. They offer performance improvements
