Rosario Bus Integrated Telematics
Bus Fleet management used GPS location, AVL/AVLC for automatic vehicle location & control, and provided a bus integrated system, including a fares collection system, fleet control & monitoring, bus service planning, schedule adherence, schedule planning and bus dispatch all in a Bus embedded PC.
Rosario Bus S.A. is one of the deregulated suppliers of public transportation in and around Rosario, Argentina. Pressures of increased fuel cost and the public's need for expanded mass transit service led Rosario to innovate and improve their business systems. Rosario Bus S.A. developed an integrated system for their bus transport system. This system links computers on the bus with real-time scheduling and operations, as well as route planning, driver training and customer satisfaction tracking systems.
A bus is the focal point for many systems. Fare collection, vehicle location, route scheduling, depot communications, security and more are required. Rosario saw the benefits of integrating these systems, not only to reduce cost, but to improve service to the customer. This program drew on an Intel® PXA255 powered system in each bus, networked to back-office servers using the most cost-effective communications channels. The PXA system used a J1708 adaptor to bring in data from the bus engine, transmission, brakes and so forth.
The programming environment is based on Microsoft® technology both in the bus and in the servers, with the same crew programming both systems. Rosario Bus S.A. has managed to lower the cost of their system, reduce fuel cost, reduce maintenance and improve on time performance throughout its route system.

"We initially picked Eurotech for the technical features of their product, but the long-term support is what made the difference."
